A complaint against a surveyor in Scotland can now be heard by the newly appointed Surveyors Ombudsman Ian Smith.
This will act as a pilot project for one year before application across the UK. This service is free and will apply for losses due to bad advice up to a current limit of £25,000 in award payments. In the first instance amicable settlements will be sought, but the Ombudsman has powers to investigate a complaint and report to professional bodies for disciplinary actions.
This service is offered at a time of buoyant housing sales in Scotland and replaces the existing expensive arbitration system. It is hoped that this independent review will boost public confidence and improve the house purchase systems
