Asia & Middle East Highlights China North East Orders New Deep Well Drilling Rig Source: www.gulfoilandgas.com 12/4/2009, Location: Asia Rigs China North East Petroleum Holdings Ltd., a leading independent oil producing and oilfield services company in Northern China, announced that its oilfield services subsidiary, Song Yuan Tiancheng Drilling Engineering Co. Ltd. ("Tiancheng") has ordered a 4,000 meter drilling rig to add to its operational fleet. This new rig will be delivered this month and is expected to be fully operational by January 2010. Once the drilling rig is delivered, Tiancheng will have eight operational drilling rigs, including two with a drilling depth of 4,000 meters, three that can drill up to 3,000 meters and three with the ability to drill up to 2,000 meters. Mr. Hongjun Wang, President of China North East Petroleum commented, "We believe the addition of a new deep well drilling rig is the right strategic move for our business at this time. PetroChina has recently decided to expand its oil refinery in the northern province of Jilin and their refining capacity is expected to increase to 10 million metric tons per year, or approximately 200,000 barrels a day, up from 7 million tons annually. PetroChina is a major customer of ours and we believe that a second deep-well rig in our fleet could allow us to drill deeper into the Jilin oilfield on their behalf, potentially benefiting both our drilling services and oil production segments." Manas 1st Year Mongolian Program Completed Early Source: www.gulfoilandgas.com 12/4/2009, Location: Asia Oil Field Services Manas Petroleum Corporation is pleased to report that DWM Petroleum, its 100% owned subsidiary, has completed its year-1 work program on blocks 13 and 14 in Mongolia, ahead of schedule. The work was originally expected to be completed on April 21, 2010. The operation was managed by Boris Goldinshtein, Manas General Manager for Central Asia, with operations being performed by Manas Gobi ltd., located in Ulan Bataar. The technical work entailed the collection and processing of: - geological data from previous exploration campaigns, - geological mapping, - geological structural sections, and, - paleontolic stratigraphical work and gravimetry. The resulting technical data were merged into a data base which was then queried to identify geologically interesting structures. The results produced definitive and interesting anomalies which is planned to be further analyzed through acquired seismic studies. The Mongolian government has acknowledged their satisfaction with the technical work performed to date and have subsequently released, as of December 1, 2009, DWM s $ 2 Million Dollar Bank Guarantee. A portion of this money will be used for ongoing operational purposes with the remainder to be used to repay a debt obligation linked to the original Bank Guarantee. Manas owns a 74% interest in blocks 13 and 14, which cover an aggregate of over 20,000 square kilometers, or almost five million acres, of land located on Mongolia s southern border. Qatargas Sends First Q-Max LNG Cargo to the US Source: www.gulfoilandgas.com 12/6/2009, Location: Middle East LNG Carriers Qatargas saw the departure of the first Q-Max vessel with a liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo onboard to the United States of America. The vessel Umm Slal, which set sail from Ras Laffan Port with 240,000 cubic meters of LNG, is expected to reach the Sabine Pass LNG terminal in Louisiana on New Year s eve. Faisal Al Suwaidi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Qatargas, said: “We are really proud to send the first Q-Max LNG cargo to the United States at the end of 2009, which has been one of the most eventful years for Qatargas.” He added: “This cargo is quite exciting for us as Umm Slal will be the first Q-Max to cross Atlantic and deliver LNG to the Americas. Coming close on the heels of our first Q-Flex LNG to China, this cargo underscores the increasing role of Qatargas in providing stable energy supplies to the world – from the East to the West.” The Q-Max has 80 percent more capacity than conventional LNG carriers, with about 40 percent lower energy requirements due to the economies of scale created by their size, and the efficiency of the engines. Q-Max LNG carriers are unique to Qatar and are purpose built to allow for more efficient transport of Qatar s natural gas to markets throughout the world. Africa Highlights @ GulfOilandGas Neptune Supplies Subsea Tree Frames for Kizomba Source: www.gulfoilandgas.com 12/2/2009, Location: Africa Offshore Construction Neptune s Aberdeen based fabrication division, Neptune Deeptech, has been awarded a contract from GE Oil & Gas for the provision of five subsea tree frames that will be installed on the deepwater Kizomba Satellites Project, offshore Angola. The Kizomba Satellites Project is operated by Esso Exploration Angola (Block 15) Limited, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil Corporation. Under the terms of the agreement Neptune Deeptech will provide the tree frames over a period of nine months. All fabrication work for the project will be carried out at the company s Aberdeen facilities. Mr Lange said the contract award reflected Neptune s strategic focus on investigating new and emerging opportunities in the deepwater and frontier regions of West Africa, Brazil and the Gulf of Mexico. “Recent industry research suggests global expenditure across the world s major deepwater precincts will be more than $27 billion a year over the next four years,” he explained. “Leading the charge will be Africa that is tipped to account for 40% of the total global spend. “Projects such as this one will help to establish Neptune as a trusted provider of engineered solutions to the deepwater oil and gas industry and will provide us with additional opportunities for international expansion,” he added. Mr Lange said the new contracts were an addition to the $20 million in international projects announced recently, approximately 60% of which are due to be completed in the second half of FY2010, reflecting Neptune s second half revenue and earnings weighting. This programme will cover 600 km/sq, focusing on an area of specific interest over the previously identified Zamba prospect. The work is being undertaken by CGG Veritas. The programme is expected to be completed by the end of December and processing and interpretation will commence immediately after completion. This activity complements the previously acquired 900km/sq which will be available for review in the dataroom which is opening in the first quarter of 2010. Paul Welch, CEO commented, “This final seismic programme will conclude a comprehensive acquisition campaign undertaken across all our Namibian acreage and is of particular interest as it is being shot over a target defined from an earlier 2D seismic programme. We look forward to the results of the interpretation and will be reporting on these in due course.” |
